Robert Mathers and Michael Mariniello are two music lovers from New Jersey.
Their first program was in the second grade, when they had a weekly appearance as Mr. Show & Mr. Tell. While attending high school in Verona, NJ, Mathers and Mariniello were part of a free form radio expriment called WVHS.
Both attended college in Boston, Michael at MC and Robert at Emerson.
After traveling the European vaudville circuit for much of the 90’s, the two split after each falling or a different Japanese conceptual artist.
Michael went on to become the official archivist for Dirk McQuickly’s band, The Punk Floyd. Robert followed one of his heros, Stig O’Hara, and became a Stewardess for Air India.
In the summer of 2008, Robert started the Radio Free Jersey podcast and Michael joined him for a regular “Teach Your Children” segment.
The new fall season of Radio Free Jersey has the original Mr. Show & Mr. Tell, hosting the program together and is a conversation about music: established, unsigned, independent and commercial.

@rdmathers Interesting, I just did this post and you must have an auto tweet function. Cool. Will need an embedding lesson . .
Hi! Cool site, a drummer I know hipped me to it. I run an independent label and mail order based out of New Brunswick, NJ. I don’t know if you accept promo materials, but if you guys are interested in hearing some stuff, I’d be happy to give you download links, and if you like it, I can send physical product over if you need it.
Thanks!
Django
hey guys thanks for playing some Devi and in very good company…woo! cool podcast!
Great show and thanks for the love!
I loved the quotes from What’s Happening. Next show you have to work in – “No Roger, no Rerun, no rent!”
Yes…ha ha, Farewell Fifth Grade…yes, she’s still known as Donna Tchir! Saw her over Christmas…I will have to tell her about this. Love these long lost memories!!!!!!
Hi! Erika told me that you guys do this podcast and I should listen to Episode #56! How in the world do you remember that I said that, Mike???? I don’t even remember that!!!! I sound like the biggest nerd, though!!!!! I so don’t remember me being such a geek!!!!!! HA!! Nevertheless, thank you for the “shout out” and recalling such a memory! Mom and dad will be so proud!
Anyway… how are you both? I’m sure this is not the most appropriate way for me to say Hello… You guys sound so great and mature- when did you grow up?! I still picture all of us at Forest Avenue School! I was really bummed I couldn’t join all of you over the holidays at that get together- it would’ve been fabulous to see everyone! I loved listening to the little bit of Mr. Peterson from gym and when you mentioned Jen and Aran! I miss those days- everything was so much easier back then!
Anyway, I’m rambling- sorry… Thank you both for doing such a great job and much luck on RadioFree Jersey!
xoxo Donna
Loved the request show – such an enjoyable, cool, eclectic playlist of tunes. Happy to have moved Michael Penn into someone’s zeitgeist as well!
hey RDM….I laughed out loud when you were talking about lifeguards, I wonder when you hear that Van Halen song if reminds you of Bruno’s escapades in the VCP office…LOL!!!!
oh, and that Crab Place in Ocean City is Obedahias or something, right? Huge crab on the roof?
…oh and thanks for Darlington….definitely a summer tune!
Some people (me included) have stated they prefer the MONO version of this album…..but unless you are prepared to buy the COMPLETE REMASTERED CD SET in MONO (which is pretty costly)…You better stick with this version…..as you wont find the mono version anywhere else…..until they decide to issue the MONO versions individually.
Hey guys- thanks for the Gravy support!! Appreciate it! And Mike – I look forward to riding the team you drafted for me straight to the top!
